College Student (Internship-Seeking) Resume Example
Here is the secret nobody tells juniors: recruiters hiring interns do not expect experience. They expect evidence of reliability, curiosity, and follow-through — and a campus job, a class project, and a club role provide all three. "No experience" is the normal starting point, not a disqualifier.
The screen for a student resume is short: is the degree and graduation date obvious, is the GPA there if it helps, and does anything on the page show the student finishing something they started? Education goes first because it is your strongest credential right now. Everything else — the café shifts, the capstone, the club Instagram — is proof you can already show up and deliver.

What matters for a college student (internship-seeking) resume
Treat the part-time job like a job
Barista, bookstore, front desk — it proves reliability, which is the #1 thing intern hiring managers screen for. Write bullets with numbers: shift sizes, order volume, anything you improved.
Write class projects like work experience
A capstone with a team, a dataset, and a deliverable is project experience. Give it a title, dates, and bullets with outcomes — just label it honestly as a course project.
Put your strongest academic number up top
GPA of 3.5 or higher, Dean’s List, a relevant course cluster — these carry real weight for internships and belong in your education section, not buried in a summary.
Free certifications are worth the weekend
Google and HubSpot certificates are free, recognized, and signal direction. Two relevant ones beat a skills section padded with things you have only opened once.
FAQ
Can a student resume be one page?
Yes — at this stage it should always be one page. If you are struggling to fill it, that is normal; if you are spilling over, cut. Nobody hiring an intern expects two pages, and a tight one-pager reads as good judgment.
Should I include my GPA?
Include it if it is roughly 3.5 or higher — or use your major GPA if that is stronger, labeled as such. Below that, leave it off entirely; nobody will ask, and the space is better spent on projects.
What if I have no internship or relevant job at all?
Then this example is your template: education first, any job that shows reliability, one or two class or personal projects written like jobs, and a club role. That combination is a completely standard — and hireable — first-internship resume.
