Accountant Resume Example
Accounting resumes are read by people who notice details for a living, so the document itself is part of the test: consistent dates, aligned formatting and no typos. After that, they look for scope: how big the books were, how fast you closed them, and which systems you used.
Concrete process improvements set candidates apart. Shortening the close, automating a reconciliation, or getting through an audit with no findings are the accounting equivalent of a sales number.

What matters for an accountant resume
Show the scale
Revenue of the entity, number of accounts you reconciled, entities you consolidated. Scale tells the reader whether your experience fits their company size.
Put the close in numbers
If you helped cut month-end close from 10 days to 6, that is your headline bullet. Speed and accuracy of the close are what controllers care about most.
Name your ERP and tools
NetSuite, SAP, QuickBooks, Excel at an advanced level: these are filters in many postings. List the ones you can use without training.
CPA status belongs in the header
Write "CPA" after your name or in your title if you hold it, and "CPA candidate" with the exams passed if you are working toward it.
FAQ
What should an accountant resume include?
Your CPA status or progress, the size and type of books you worked on, month-end close and reconciliation experience, audit involvement, and the ERP and spreadsheet tools you use. Quantify scope and improvements wherever you can.
Should I list CPA exam sections I have passed?
Yes. Write it as "CPA candidate, passed FAR and AUD" or similar. It shows progress toward the license, which many employers value even before you finish.
Is one page enough for an accountant?
Yes for most people under ten years of experience. Senior accountants and controllers with several relevant roles can use two pages.
