High School English Teacher Resume Example
Schools hire teachers on three signals: an active state license with the right endorsements, grade-and-subject match, and evidence of student growth. A resume that says "taught English" loses to one that says "taught 5 sections of 11th-grade English, ~140 students, 84% AP pass rate".
Principals read for classroom impact: measurable growth (benchmark gains, proficiency rates, AP scores), curriculum you built that colleagues adopted, and how you handle the job beyond instruction — parents, clubs, committees. Numbers from your own classroom outweigh adjectives every time.
If you are moving between districts or states, name the credential plainly — "Illinois PEL, ELA 9–12" — because HR, not the principal, usually does the first screen, and HR screens for license strings.

What matters for a high school english teacher resume
Lead with license and endorsements
State, subject, grade range, year. A district cannot interview you without the right credential, so put "Illinois PEL — ELA 9–12" where HR finds it in five seconds.
Quantify student growth
Proficiency gains, benchmark growth, AP pass rates, reading-level jumps. One honest number — "reading growth of 1.4 grade equivalents" — outweighs a paragraph of pedagogy.
Show the whole job
Parent contact rates, clubs advised, committees, coaching. Principals hire for 3pm–6pm as much as for 8am–3pm.
Name your curriculum work
Units you wrote that colleagues adopted are the teaching equivalent of shipping a product — impact beyond your own classroom, in one bullet.

Should a teacher resume be one page?
One page under ~10 years of experience. Two pages only when you have genuinely distinct leadership work — department chair, district curriculum committees, published materials.
How do I show results if my district does not share test data?
Use your own classroom numbers: growth on your assessments, essay submission and revision rates, club participation, AP enrollment. Classroom-level data you can speak to in an interview beats none.
Do I list student teaching?
Yes, within your first few years — it is your evidence. Name the school, grades, and what you owned (units taught, assessments built). After ~5 years, your full-time record replaces it.
